Meet BCS Alumni Josh Strongman who tells us about his basketball journey from BCS to playing pro for a team in Spain!

Q: When did your basketball journey begin?

A: I started my basketball journey at BCS with the Seahawks team when I was in Year 8. I began as a fairly new player and one of the youngest players on the team.

Josh strongmanQ: How did BCS help you develop your skills as a player?

A: Throughout my years with the Seahawks Club, I began to improve going from a bench player to starting on the team. Playing in the local men’s league as a young player really helped to develop my skills as I could learn from the older players.

Q: How did BCS support your basketball?

A: BCS Coach Olly Wood from BCS Seahawks was my first basketball coach and has always supported my basketball dreams and taught me the fundamentals of the game. He still comes to watch and support me at any opportunity he gets

Q: Did your passion for basketball follow you after leaving BCS?

A: Yes! When it was time for university, I had the opportunity to go to the USA to further improve my skills. After 2 years I was then recruited to one of the top university teams in England at UWE.

Q: What was next for your basketball career?

A: After graduating from UWE earlier this year, I signed with my first team overseas in Spain to begin my basketball career as a professional.

Q: How is it, playing as a pro?

A: So far it is going so good! My team is undefeated, at the moment, and I am the highest scorer on the team, so a pretty decent start.

Q: Who is your role model and why?

A: I would say my role model is Kobe Bryant, I always loved how he carried himself on and off the court. I strive to have his type of attitude towards life as this is how he became known as one of the greatest players of all time.

Q: Is basketball your future, or do you have other ideas?

A: I plan to combine my love for basketball with business as I get older. I wish to be a part of the growth of basketball in the UK and I dream of popularising the sport within the UK.

Q: If you could pick one favourite memory from BCS what would it be?

A: I don’t have a specific memory but some highlights were English lessons with Mr Sheehan, being a part of the musicals, and the playing on all of the sports teams!
