BCS Rowing Academy saw out the end of the 2022/2023 season in style at the Egham Regatta, Sunday 25th June. Not used to the racing format of Egham, where the course is a Henley -style two-lane knockout rather than the standard regatta racing, the team were ready to take on the challenge!
Bournemouth Collegiate School took a small number of rowers, including Brooke and Jorja, who raced first in the women's J15 double, with Molly racing in the women’s J14 singles later on. Following their strong performance at the Ball Cup, Brooke and Jorja were keen to continue their winning streak, and despite a fantastic performance, were ultimately defeated after a round one.
Molly took to the stands in the afternoon to race an objectively stacked field consisting of one main club, Lady Elenor Holles, a girl's secondary school from Hampton. The first race was a clear result against Lady Elenor Holles as Molly dispatched one of their six entries and proceeded to advance to the sconed round where Molly would meet another LEH rower who had received the bye to the second round. From there Molly was able to keep the lead after a dominant start and held off some strong attaches from the opponent to proceed into the top four.
Molly was able to see off the competition that for a change of pace wasn’t from LEH but was instead from Kings School. Molly continued to front-load the race and show a strong lead coming down the channel. In the final, she was up against the final contender from LEH, and after a shaky back and fourth start Molly was able to throw down the hammer at a pace, to win by six lengths! Congratulations.
A very well-rowed regatta – huge congratulations to the entire BCS Rowing Academy; incredible racing not only this regatta but across the whole season!
